Preliminary Analysis: Important for Companies

In mid-December I had to start analyzing the data, because senior management would like a preliminary report by early January, and the latter half of December is typically when administration employees, like myself, take time off of work, since the schools are off for Winter Break.

In business, preliminary analyses can be a good thing, because they want to start making improvements to increase teacher retention. Naturally, as a researcher, I advised them that the analysis is no where close to final and may not even reflect the final results. However, I can try to provide them with overall feelings and thoughts about what the teachers were saying regarding issues of teacher retention, emphasizing that I could not be completely specific until the interviews were transcribed and analyzed using Malterud’s Systematic Text Condensation (see Malterud 2001 for an overview of qualitative research).
